Alternatives To Low Carb Cereal
It gets pretty exhausting and stressful, trying to maintain a low carb way of life. Despite the nutritional benefits of low carb foods, old habits die hard, and it is difficult to let go of the foods that you’ve grown up with.
One of the hardest things I’ve had to give up is cereal. What few low carb cereals that are being sold in the market nowadays still have a considerable amount of carbs, which means that you can’t really term as ‘low’ in carbs. Additionally, they generally all contain grains, which is problematic for people trying to stick to a strict low carb regimen or who are allergic to gluten.
Due to the lack of low carb cereal, those on a low carb diet go for other breakfast substitutes. Sausages, bacons, scrapple, and ham the options most people choose. If you’re lucky, you might also have some fruit or an omelet. So much fat and protein for breakfast can be uncomfortable for some people. This is especially the case if they are not used to eating much for breakfast. Even if you are able to stick to such a breakfast, you may still crave foods such as cereal. It’s disappointing that no one has come up with a low carb cereal when there are so many low carb desserts out there!
An alternative to cereal is hot oatmeal substitute. Some people prefer these hot breakfasts. Mostly these oatmeal-like substitutes are made from flax. These alternatives don’t increase your blood sugar levels.
Protein shakes are also chosen for breakfast. It doesn’t take long to make these yummy treats. As another source of protein, they are very inexpensive. These delicious protein shakes are very low in carbs. Try making them with sugar-free syrups for an even healthier breakfast! Protein powder can be bought online and is very easy to make into protein shakes; just add liquid, and you’re set. You can buy protein powders from a vast selection of available flavors, assuring you of many choices of protein shakes.
If you are ok with egg products being your sole substitute for breakfast cereals, then there are quite a lot of types of foods you can make from eggs. There are a variety of creative ways you can use eggs. Then there’s various omelets you can try as well as other egg products. If you want a little more attitude to your usual egg fare, why don’t you mix some specialty vegetables in there.
I know you will probably miss your cereals for breakfast when you switch to a low carb diet, but there are plenty of alternatives. Your menu each morning need not bore you to tears because they are the same day after day. If you switch to a low carb diet, you will be surprised at the many choices and new discoveries when it comes to tastier and healthier foods.
